Ring a ding ding this Spring

Hello fellow SMBC members!  We hope that you are enjoying the AMAZING spring weather and that you are putting your new bells to good use.

Our board is excited to be meeting with Patrick Kell, South Western Regional Director of IMBA on Monday May 20th, 2013 to discuss the SMBC and IMBA’s partnership moving forward.
It is our intention to present your comments and concerns to Patrick that you have voiced via the club website and those that were written at our first annual general membership meeting.
We would also like to discuss with Patrick how the SMBC and IMBA can become a more effective team and more relevant in representing those interests.

Please feel free to post any comments or questions that you would like us to deliver to Patrick in the “Comments” section of this post
If you would like your comments to remain anonymous please
email them to community@sedonamtbclub.com and note this in the body of the email.  As always, to insure accountability and transparency your comments will be printed out and provided to Patrick at the meeting.

We’re looking forward to an exciting and successful 2013 and to the future.
Sincerely, your SMBC board.

Thank you for your participation and support.  Ride On!

At the last RTCA meeting on 5/16/13. It was suggested by Cate that some of us who know the trails that are being suggested for adoption by the FS serve as trail guides of those trails to show those people at the meeting the trails being suggested by actually hiking them. My wife and I said we would be happy to show anyone interested in the trails they might be interested in.

Will Patrick Kell and IMBA support our efforts in trying to showcase those trails to the Sedona community who are interested in getting out and hiking them? Maybe we can get the Red Rock News to do an article asking others if they want to also join in on such hikes?

My question to Patrick is based on my experience at the 5/16/13 RTCA Trail Planning Meeting where a few knowledgeable attendees were able to list some future trail ideas that they think would be good trail additions to the current Sedona system trail inventory. My question to Kate the facilitator was how many new miles of FS system trails will the FS be allowing in a go forward basis? She didn’t know the answer, but wrote down the question I assume will be asked of the FS in a future meeting.
My first question to Patrick is how many new miles of system trails is IMBA looking to see be added to the Sedona trail system over the coming years before a new trail plan is re-done in the distant future? My second question is will new currently unconstructed trails like what Lars and Phil are recommending take a higher IMBA priority in being brought into a system status, than the low hanging fruit trails that have already been constructed and used by the mountain bike community for years and have shown to be a good work product?
